Quit smoking tablets with 4 mg of mint flavored nicotine.

Therapeutic indications

NiQuitin Mint Flavor Tablets are used to help people quit smoking. This type of treatment is called Nicotine Replacement Therapy or NST. It is the nicotine in cigarettes that can make you physically addicted to cigarettes.

Dosage and posology

The tablet should be placed in the mouth, moving it from time to time from one part of the mouth to the other, until it is completely dissolved (20-30 minutes). Do not chew or swallow the whole tablet. Do not eat or drink when you have a lozenge in your mouth as nicotine absorption may be reduced. Do not take more than 15 tablets per day. If you feel the need to use NiQuitin mint flavored lozenges for more than 9 months in total, ask your healthcare professional for advice.

Adults (18 years and older) NiQuitin 4 mg mint flavored lozenges are indicated for those who smoke their first cigarette within 30 minutes of waking up:

  • For the first 6 weeks, use at least 9 tablets per day
  • To help you stay smoke-free beyond 12 weeks, you can take 1-2 tablets a day in situations where you are strongly tempted to smoke.
  • When you only get 1-2 tablets a day, stop using them altogether

If you use too many NiQuitin peppermint tablets you may start to feel nauseous, dizzy and unwell. Stop using the tablets and contact a doctor or hospital emergency department immediately. If possible, show the carton or package leaflet. The tablets are not suitable for children under the age of 12 and for non-smokers. If the lozenges are taken by children or non-smokers, they may induce symptoms of nicotine overdose. These include headaches, malaise, stomach pain and diarrhea. If a child has taken or ate one or more tablets, contact your doctor or the nearest hospital emergency department immediately. If possible, show the carton or this leaflet. If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Contraindications

Do not use NiQuitin mint flavor tablets:

  • if you are allergic to nicotine or any of the ingredients
  • if you are allergic to peanuts or soy
  • if you are a non-smoker or if you are under the age of 12

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. At the recommended doses, NiQuitin mint flavored tablets did not cause any serious side effects. Quitting smoking by itself can lead to some symptoms such as headache, dizziness, increased cough or cold. Symptoms such as depression, irritability, anxiety and insomnia may be associated with withdrawal symptoms following quitting smoking.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Smoking during pregnancy carries risks for the baby, such as poor growth before birth, premature birth or stillbirth. Quitting smoking is the best thing to do for your health and that of your baby. The sooner you quit smoking, the better. Ideally, if you are pregnant, you should stop smoking without using NST. However, if she has tried and failed, NSN may be recommended by healthcare professionals as an aid to quitting smoking as it is better for the developing fetus than cigarette smoking. The decision to use NST should be made as early as possible during pregnancy. It should aim to only use it for 2-3 months. Remember that the most important thing is to stop smoking. Products such as lozenges may be preferable to nicotine patches, as you do not take nicotine continuously with the lozenges. However, the use of the patches may be preferable if you suffer from nausea or vomiting.

If you are breastfeeding, tobacco smoke causes breathing difficulties and other problems for the infant. The ideal would be to quit smoking without using NST. However, if you have tried and failed, your healthcare professional may advise you to use NST to quit smoking. If you have to use NSN to help you quit smoking, the amount of nicotine your baby can take is low and much less harmful than secondhand smoke. It is best to use NST products that are taken a few times a day (such as gums or pads instead of patches). Also, it is best to breastfeed just before taking the product, in order to expose the baby to the least amount of nicotine possible.
