Therapeutic indications

Fluimucil Mucolytic contains the active ingredient N-acetylcysteine, which belongs to a group of medicines called mucolytics, used to facilitate the elimination of mucus from the respiratory tract. Fluimucil Mucolytic is indicated for the treatment of respiratory diseases characterized by an increase in the production of thick and viscous mucus (thick and viscous hypersecretion).

Dosage and posology

For the treatment of respiratory diseases the recommended dose is 1 sachet (600 mg) per day, preferably in the evening. Your doctor may advise you to change the frequency or dose of the administration but not to exceed the maximum daily dose of 600 mg. The duration of therapy is from 5 to 10 days.

How to use

Dissolve the contents of the sachet in a glass containing a little water, stirring as needed with a teaspoon. Do not mix other drugs with Fluimucil Mucolytic solution.

Overdose

No cases of overdose have been reported. Symptoms of overdose can be nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. If you have swallowed / taken too much of this medicine, notify your doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital. If you forget to take Fluimucil Mucolytic do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

Contraindications

Do not take Mucolytic Fluimucil if:

• you are allergic to N-acetylcysteine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
• if you are pregnant or breast-feeding unless after careful consideration by your doctor

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The following side effects may occur:

Uncommon (which may affect up to 1 in 100 people), allergic reactions (hypersensitivity); headache (headache); ringing in the ear (tinnitus); increased heart rate (tachycardia); He retched; diarrhea; inflammation of the mouth (stomatitis); abdominal pain; nausea; hives, rash; swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing (angioedema); itch; fever (pyrexia); reduced blood pressure.

Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people), contractions of the bronchial muscles (bronchospasm); difficulty in breathing (dyspnoea); digestive difficulties (dyspepsia).

Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people), severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic shock, anaphylactic / anaphylactoid reaction); bleeding (haemorrhage).

Not known (frequency of which cannot be estimated from the available data), swelling (edema) of the face. In very rare cases, severe skin reactions (Stevens Johnson syndrome or Lyell syndrome) have occurred.

If you have changes in the mucous membranes or skin stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor. Also contact your doctor if you experience prolonged bleeding time (reduced platelet aggregation).

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. Only take this medicine if you are pregnant or breast-feeding if strictly necessary and under the direct supervision of your doctor.

Special warnings

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Fluimucil Mucolitico. Take this medicine with caution and always under the supervision of your doctor in the following cases:

• if you suffer from an inflammatory disease of the bronchi called bronchial asthma. Stop taking Mucolytic Fluimucil immediately if you have contraction of the bronchial muscles (bronchospasm). Consult your doctor even if these problems have occurred in the past;
• if you have or have suffered from a stomach or bowel problem called a peptic ulcer, especially if you are taking other medicines that can cause stomach problems (gastric-damaging medicines) together with Fluimucil Mucolytic.

This medicine can increase the volume of bronchial mucus (bronchial secretions), especially at the start of treatment. Therefore, if this occurs and you are unable to eliminate bronchial secretions by coughing (expectoration), contact your doctor who will indicate a method for eliminating the mucus (postural drainage or bronchoaspiration). If you smell sulfur, do not worry because this does not indicate any alteration of the preparation, but is due to N-acetylcysteine.

Laboratory tests: N-acetylcysteine can interfere with some blood and urine tests (colorimetric assay for the determination of salicylates and tests for the determination of ketones). Tell your doctor that you are taking this medicine before having these tests.

Fluimucil Mucolitico contains sorbitol. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product. Fluimucil Mucolytic contains aspartame. This medicine contains, a source of phenylalanine. It can be harmful to you if you have phenylketonuria.

Expiration and retention

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the package. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Store at a temperature below 30 ° C. Do not throw any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. This will help protect the environment.
