In scientific literature the action of Cranberry in the prevention and treatment of relapsing urinary infections is known. It has been shown that this activity is due to the presence of Cranberry-specific proanthocyanidins (PACs), which prevent pathogenic bacteria from adhering to the mucosa of the urinary tract, thus avoiding the development of infection. Furthermore, the degree of inhibition of bacterial adhesion appears to be proportional to the concentration of proanthocyanidins. International studies have shown that proanthocyanidins (PACs), contained in Cranberry juice, are able to inhibit the adhesion of the fimbriae of uropathogenic strains to the urinary epithelium, thus protecting it from infections.
Lactose
It is a sugar present in mammalian milk and its derivatives, it is given by the union of two sugars: glucose and galactose. The lactase enzyme, responsible for breaking down these two sugars, allows the body to absorb it. The main component of breast milk lactose (80%) is the most important prebiotic for humans. Lactose also helps the body to stabilize the intestinal pH by creating the optimal environment for the regeneration of the eubiotic intestinal flora.
