Features

Multi-Safe Cu 375 IUD intrauterine devices offer virtually total protection from pregnancy. They work longer than other copper-free reversible methods of contraception. When used correctly, they are safe for all women exposed to a low risk of sexually transmitted diseases. The product is an intrauterine device of contraceptive action composed of polyethylene and baric sulphate. The lateral arms are flexible and formed in such a way as to allow adhesion of the IUD to the fundus of the uterus without enlarging the uterus or touching the tubes. Multi-Safe Cu 375 IUDs prevent pregnancy by preventing fertilization. The contraceptive action is probably based on a sterile inflammatory response that occurs inside the uterus as a reaction to the presence of a foreign body. It increases the concentration of different types of white blood cells, prostaglandins and enzymes in the fluids present in the uterus and tubes. These changes affect the mobility of spermatozoa in the genital area and limit their ability to fertilize to the point that fertilization is impossible. In the fallopian tubes, that is, where fertilization is assumed to occur, fewer spermatozoa are found in women with copper IUDs than in those who use a copper-free IUD. Substantial action, therefore, is a change in the functionality or vitality of the sperm and egg before they even meet.
