Curiosity

Vitamin B6 : promotes lipid, carbohydrate and protein metabolism and that of homocysteine.

Folate : it is important for numerous metabolic processes, including: amino acid synthesis, hematopoiesis, homocysteine metabolism. The deficiencies of folate can be traced back to an inadequate intake, or use, or to an increased excretion of the same. Most folate and its derivatives, present in food, are unstable. Fresh vegetables lose 70% of their folate content in three days and up to 95% during cooking.

Vitamin B12 : contributes to the cell division processes of the body, it is useful for the functioning of the nervous system and for the formation of red blood cells. It also contributes to normal energy metabolism.

Biovin® (Vitis vinifera): Biovin® extract titrated in Flavonoids, Anthocyanidins and Resveratrols from the fruit of Vitis vinifera (Vitis vinifera es), useful for promoting the functions of the cardiovascular system; it also has an antioxidant action.

It is known that after the age of 50, sometimes even earlier, the blood cholesterol level is a significant value as it is one of the cardiovascular risk indicators. However, not everyone knows that the homocysteine value in the blood is equally important for the purpose of determining possible cardiovascular risks and more.

Homocysteine is an amino acid derived from another amino acid, methionine; introduced with the diet (red meat, cured meats, milk and cheeses).

Homocysteine is then transformed by the body, through two distinct metabolic pathways, into Glutathione, a detoxifying substance for cells and the liver, or into S-adenosylmethionine, a fundamental molecule for the brain and for many body functions. If, due to specific nutritional deficiencies, these two metabolic pathways are underperforming, there is not only a deficit of these two important substances, but also an excess of homocysteine in the blood, called hyperhomocysteinemia.

Hyperhomocysteinemia is harmful to the organism, as it generates a high quantity of free radicals that act negatively throughout the organism, in particular on the endothelium of veins and arteries, favoring the processes of atherosclerosis. An excess of homocysteine therefore causes an increase in recurrent thrombosis of the coronary, cerebral and peripheral arteries and deep vein thrombosis.

Like hypercholesterolemia, hyperhomocysteinemia is therefore associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular pathologies, also increasing the relative risk of other pathologies, such as fetal malformations, mental decay, Alzheimer's and spontaneous fractures due to osteopenia.

Sample checks have shown that over 50% of adults have high homocysteine values. To convert Homocysteine back into methionine, the body uses, in particular, some Vitamins of group B. It may happen that these Vitamins are not present in sufficient quantities or, due to a genetic predisposition, it takes a greater quantity to metabolize the Homocysteine, or, and is the most frequent case, there is a general deficiency of B vitamins due to modern eating habits, as the diet is lacking especially in fresh and raw fruits and vegetables. Among the causes or factors that determine an increased need for these vitamins, are to be included: smoking and alcoholic substance abuse, poor physical activity, abuse of some drugs and environmental pollution, especially that due to dust thin. The B vitamins, which are involved in the metabolism of homocysteine and which must be taken at the same time, are vitamins B6 and B12 and folate.

Cardiofol is a supplement based on Vitamins B6, B12, Folate and Dry Grape Extract, the latter useful for regulating the functionality of the cardiovascular system.
