Momentact is an over-the-counter drug, i.e. sold without a prescription, based on ibuprofen. It has an anti-inflammatory and analgesic action and is useful for self-medication in case of transient ailments such as headaches, toothaches, menstrual pains, etc.
Like all NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), over the counter, even Momentact, although well tolerated in general, should be used in moderation, only when essential and especially in the doses indicated in the leaflet, paying attention to contraindications and possible interactions.
Moment-Act
Ibuprofen, the active ingredient present in the medicine and also in other over-the-counter drugs such as Brufen or Cibalgina, is in fact contraindicated in the following cases:
Age less than 12 years old
Pregnancy and breastfeeding (unless otherwise directed by the doctor)
Active peptic ulcer
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient
Heart failure
Kidney failure
Hepatic insufficiency
Gastro-intestinal bleeding
Furthermore, Momentact and all ibuprofen-based medicines should be taken with caution in the following cases:
Asthma and episodes of bronchospasm
People, especially the elderly, who in the past have suffered from ulcer episodes, gastro-intestinal bleeding and gastric inflammatory diseases such as gastritis
Concomitant use of other anti-inflammatory NSAIDs (especially acetylsalicylic acid-based), or heart medications, anticoagulants, diuretics and corticosteroids
In all these cases, the drug must be taken in minimum doses for a very limited period of time and only after consulting with your doctor, and in any case far from the times when you take the other medicines. Furthermore, it must be said that Momentact can, even in healthy subjects, irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, and therefore it is recommended to take it after meals, on a full stomach, with plenty of water. The cases for which this medicine is indicated are as follows:
Feverish states and seasonal flu to reduce symptoms
Migraine and headache
Menstrual cramps
Osteo-articular pains
Neuralgia
Toothache (from cavities, abscesses, gingivitis)
Muscle aches
Momentact is available in packs of 6 or 12 tablets of 400 mg each, to be taken at the following strength:
1 tablet 2-3 times a day for up to 3 consecutive days of treatment
As anticipated, the tablet should be taken with water on a full stomach and the recommended dosage should never be exceeded. Attention also to the excipients. In fact, Momentact contains lactose, a milk sugar that causes intolerances and allergies in many subjects, who, therefore, should avoid its intake.
