Therapeutic indications

In neurology and pediatrics: clinical pictures expressing a state of hyperexcitability of the central and peripheral nervous system, supported by a magnesium deficiency. In obstetrics: vomiting, insomnia, irritability, muscle cramps, painful contractions of the uterus, eclampsia.

Dosage

According to the doctor's prescription. The recommended dosage is one sachet twice a day (for a total of 4.5 g of magnesium pidolate / day). Dissolve the contents of the sachet in half a glass of water.

Overdose

Cases of hypermagnesaemia have been reported following massive administration of magnesium or during the treatment of patients with severe renal insufficiency. Symptoms observed were: heart rhythm disturbances, respiratory depression and neuromuscular transmission disorders. The treatment uses rehydration with restoration of abundant diuresis or forced diuresis. In case of renal insufficiency, dialysis treatment is recommended.

Contraindications

Severe renal insufficiency. Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. Not to be administered to subjects undergoing digitalis therapy.

Side effects

Rare digestive disorders; diarrhea; abdominal pain. Exceptional cases of individual ion intolerance have been reported, which can be treated with oral or parenteral antihistamines.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, it is advisable to take the drug under medical supervision and in cases of real need

Special warnings

If symptoms persist or worsen, contact your doctor. In patients with renal insufficiency it is necessary to reduce the dosage and to monitor renal function and magnesaemia. It is advisable to consider the possibility of cardiovascular and respiratory depression occurring during treatment. SOLUMAG contains sucrose: patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency, should not take this medicine.
