FOLINT Dietary supplement whose intake is indicated in cases of reduced dietary intake or an increased requirement of the component substances. Alpha linolenic acid
Alpha linolenic acid (ALA), a precursor of long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, is a long-chain omega-3 fatty acid of plant origin which is converted within the body into DHA and EPA, the biologically active long-chain fats in mammals. Several studies have shown that DHA is important for the development of the brain, eyes and nervous system in infants, while also preserving from heart damage. In the first three months of pregnancy, the fetus does not produce DHA by itself, so it is essential that it be made available through the diet during this period. Dietary availability is also important during and after breastfeeding. EPA can also be converted to DHA through elongation and beta oxidation.
