LUTEIN DK Food supplement based on lutein and zeaxanthin, vitamin D3 and vitamin K1. Indicated in the case of increased need or decreased intake with the diet of its components in all the different age groups, it can be useful, in particular, in the prevention of retinal or macular damage from excess free radicals, or where greater is required. protection against oxidative stress or during the development of visual function.
Lutein and Zeaxanthin
They are two very common carotenoids in nature that the human body is unable to synthesize. These substances are normally absorbed through foods that are rich in them (green leafy vegetables, large and leafy such as cabbage and spinach, fruits such as apricots, kiwis, etc.) and in infants they are consumed through mother's milk. After absorption, they are distributed in all tissues, but selectively accumulate in the eye. In particular, they are concentrated in the retina and in the macula lutea, the latter site of the formation of clear images, whose development is completed around the 4th-5th month of life. They help maintain the functionality and integrity of sensitive eye structures (in particular the retina and macula) by preventing or minimizing damage induced by free radicals. Their antioxidant properties and the advantages of their intake or supplementation are widely described in the literature; they pass the placental barrier, they are also present in colostrum and breast milk. Lutein and zeaxanthin can therefore be useful for eye health, both in adults and children from the first hours of life. An integration of these substances is necessary in situations of increased need or in a state of insufficient intake, both during the maturation of the ocular structures responsible for the visual function (macula) and for the conservation of the same.
Vitamin D3
It is necessary to combat the risk of rickets and chronic degenerative diseases, such as osteoporosis. Rickets is an alteration in the normal development of bones and babies who are premature or low in weight or who are exclusively breastfed have an increased risk of these conditions.
Vitamin K1
Also called phylloquinone, it is produced by green plants and is one of the two forms in which vitamin K is found. Vitamin K1 is essential for the synthesis and functioning of factors that regulate the blood clotting process. Its deficiency in the infant, particularly if breastfed, can be the cause of a bleeding disorder called Vitamin K Deficiency Hemorrhagic Disease (VKDB).
It does not contain gluten.
