NaF DROPS

Indications:
indicated for the systemic prophylaxis of dental caries. If the preventive method is implemented early, the Fluorine acts on the forming teeth, depositing itself in the deeper layers of the enamel in the form of fluorapatite crystals and making its structure more resistant to acids. The carious lesion in fact consists in a destruction of the hard dental tissues following a demineralization process promoted by the acids produced by some plaque microorganisms. Fluorine also has a direct action on plaque bacteria. This action leads not only to a reduction in the accumulation of plaque due to a reduction in the production of polysaccharides necessary for bacterial growth, but also to an inhibitory action on the production of the acids responsible for the demineralization processes.

Dosage and method of use:
if in the water used there is a quantity of fluorine lower than 0.3 mg / liter (the most common mineral waters) the recommended intake is:
from 2 weeks to 2 years: 8 drops (0.25 mg of F - ions) per day;
from 2 to 4 years: 16 drops (0.50 mg of F - ions) per day.

Features:
it tastes good thanks to sweetening with xylitol, a non-cariogenic sugar and is perfectly miscible in water, milk or other foods or liquids. However, for better absorption of the fluoride, it is preferable not to dissolve the drops of NAF in milk.

Warnings:
if a supplementary intake of fluoride is considered, the quantities of fluorides ingested from other sources should be taken into account and an overdose should be avoided. The main manifestation of a chronic ingestion of excessive amounts of fluoride is the formation of patches on the tooth enamel. Symptoms of acute overdose (abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea) occur following ingestion of more than 100 mg of fluorine. This corresponds approximately to more than 10 vials of NAF drops.
