Policosanols from rice
They are substances composed of aliphatic alcohols of exclusively vegetable origin. As widely reported in the literature, treatment with these substances leads to an increase in the level of "good" HDL cholesterol and a lowering of the level of "bad" LDL cholesterol. Unlike monacolin K, policosanols do not inhibit the synthesis of cholesterol by inactivating the enzyme HMG-CoAreductase, but they decrease the number of molecules of this enzyme available for the synthesis of cholesterol.
