Features:
myopia is a refractive vice, not a pathology. Myopia, however, is an anatomical and functional alteration that can be the cause of various retinal pathologies: exhaustion of the posterior pole with thinning and rarefaction of the retinal pigment epithelium. The rarefaction is an expression of exhaustion of cellular activity. The exhaustion of the posterior pole causes alteration of the retinal metabolism. Choriocapillary atrophy is considered an index of the extent of myopia understood as tissue damage. It can occur in confined or extended areas and can lead to partial or total loss of vascular elements.
