Omega-3 DHA is one of the fundamental constituents of the membranes of the central nervous system and is an integral part of the photoreceptors that make up the retina. The DHA content in the brain increases progressively throughout the development period from birth to 18 years. DHA makes up 60% polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in the retina and 40% of PUFAs in the brain. 50% by weight of the neuronal membranes is composed of the omega 3 DHA. *
